I would suggest exploring Osaka and seeing as much of the Kansai region as possible. Osaka is well known for great food and dining out.
Visit the Osaka Castle, Umeda Skybuilding and Shinsaibashi. Kyoto is only about 40 minutes away by train from Osaka. Mino is another popular place to go for a walk in the mountains and see the waterfall. If you like cities, Kobe is an interesting city to see.
In the time I've been in Japan, I've had the opportunity to visit many places and do lots of exploring so there's plenty that I can recommend!! I've been to Kyoto (many times), Himeji, Nara, Kobe, Wakayama, San-in coast, Shikoku, Okinawa, and of course Tokyo. One of my favourite places would have to be Shikoku island, one of the better places to go surfing in Japan. Not to mention Okinawa which is also great for surfing and gets good waves in summer from typhoons and in winter from the low pressure systems. Some of the smaller nearby islands like Miyakojima are more beautiful though.

I'm from Australia, currently living in Japan; also been to Malaysia, Singapore and Bali, and had a really great time.
I enjoy spending time at the coast bodyboarding and living the outdoor life. I regularly go sight seeing and on short hikes in National Parks and country areas. I love going out at night and dancing and having a good time and being with people who share this passion for living! :)
